YID trains Chinese and foreigners in an international environment. The training of the Development Instructors – our word for volunteer – takes, in total, 11 months.
The first 5 months is theoretical training in YID, combined with practice periods in rural projects. During the next 5 months you will live and work in a rural Development Project run by Humana People to People. The last month takes place at YID and is about evaluation and information and preparing for the future. The training focuses on DEVELOPMENT. Your own development. Your ability to create development where it is needed. Development in a broader perspective.
The education takes place in English. The foreigners have to learn to speak Chinese during the first 5 months, and they will have 1 lesson a day and do homework and speak a lot of Chinese in the daily life.
The methods of education are very different from the traditional ways. Theory and practice must go hand in hand. This to ensure you can actually make a difference when you go to the project area for your second period. One and one we are too vulnerable. But if we work well together we can make changes. So, abilities of cooperation and communication are important to enhance – during the entire training period. This work is not for lonely experts but for ordinary people who would like to improve conditions for people and at the same time improve themselves.
Many people would like to use part of their life to actually put their footsteps and create changes. In YID you can learn more about HOW to do it, and get a unique chance to be part of such development work.
